Treasurer’s report:  14 cents interest last month $3,159.44  moved, seconded, accepted

Secretary’s report: minutes posted online, moved, seconded, accepted.

EXEC-COMM:  Recommends keeping same officers in same positions.  All have accepted nominations.  Nominations can be offered for all who are interested.

Will need replacement for James Jalbert as assistant tech advisor since he has accepted position of tech advisor.

EM-COMM**: **  ARES met Jan 21, 2017  23 members.  Reviewed FF drill, got involved with skywarn will be doing weather spotting.  Entered written agreement with NWS for Skywarn.  Working to get Cary, Fort Kent hospitals up.  Need to talk to TAMC.  Houlton up and running.  Asked ARES team members to test radios once per month.  Need to be able to communicate between hospitals.  Testing on club repeater freq.

**FIELD DAY/Public Information Officer:  **Field Day June 24-25.  Narrowed down two sites.  1.) PI  Fairgrounds  2.) Mapleton Days location.

AARA meeting:

The up-coming meeting of the AROOSTOOK AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION will be held at 6:00 PM (23:00 UTC) at the Presque Isle Library, this coming Thursday, March 2nd.  It will be the start of a new year so elections will be held and pizza and soda will be made available free of charge however 2017 dues are due and the treasurer, N1NXU, would like to get them collected early this year.

HAM License testing:

** **Amateur radio licensing examinations will be offered in Presque Isle on Tuesday, April 11th at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library, 39 2nd St and will start at 6:00 PM. Walk-ins will be accepted. Examinees must have 2 forms of positive identification and their Social Security number. Licensed amateurs trying to upgrade must have in their possession the original license and a clear photocopy of it. Contact the team VE leader (Steve N1NXU 227-2473) in advance if special exam facilities are required or proposed. The cost is $15.00 (exact cash please). **EMCOMM: ** ARES still has 23 members.  Had drill in Caribou at the NWS – monthly  CERT meeting/training.  Skywarn program was held.  A few members took part in the Skywarn Day event on December 2 & 3.

**FIELD DAY/Public Information Officer:  **Jim, KC5UEQ set up a Field Day team consisting of himself, James, KC1ECV; Steve, N1NXU; and Michelle, XYL; Boyd, KC1DRX.

**President’s report:  **

  • On November 7, KB1WGN; KC1ECV and WK1W demonstrated Ham radio to the students at New Sweden school.
  • Jim Cerrato KC5UEQ has reinstated his AARA membership and will continue to be PIO and head up the Field Day preparations.
  • James KC1ECV will do an encore program on programming the cheap, Chinese radios.
  • Future programs are needed. Always interested in program topics, especially if relates to Ham radio.

  • Encouraging everyone to try to learn CW. In these times of weak propagation, CW will get through more better.

  • ** Sam Barrett, W5KF, will present a program on ANDERSON POWER POLES, the recommended connectors for equipment using DC.  Emergency agencies seem to prefer these connectors, so it is a good idea for us to be compatible.**

  • ** Steve Sandelier will present a program on CRIMPING PL-259s on RG-8 & RG-58.**

  • ** Refreshments will again be provided.**

**EMCOMM: ** ARES now has 23 members.  Had drill at Fort Fairfield – annual CERT training.  Town was impressed, great reviews.  Have sent out press release to news outlets.  Team starting to pick up recognition.  Now familiar with Fort Fairfield, their EOC and how they operate.  Next meeting Nov. 19, Caribou Weather Bureau, 9am.  Skywarn program will be held.  Working on setting up network with Penobscot County to have weather spotter service tied to ARES team.

Jan 5th 6:00 PM AARA meeting

AARA meeting:

The January meeting of the Aroostook Amateur radio Association will be held on January 5 at 6 PM EST at the Presque Isle Library.

Carl Pelletier, N1EVO, from Fort Kent, will present the program,  REVERSE BEACON NETWORK.  It is an extremely helpful/useful tool for telling where your signal is heard in real time.  After the meeting, James Jalbert, KC1ECV, will have a “clinic” for Baofeng radio programming.  Bring your (inexpensive) Chinese radio and get help from James, who happens to be Technical Advisor.  Thanks James.

Treasurer’s report:  Collected two dues, KC5UEQ paid $80.00 for antenna.  Rec. Donation of $50.00, 14 cents interest, Bal. at end of September = $3531.61

Secretary’s report:   Moved, seconded and approved minutes of Sept. Meeting.

**EMCOMM: ** Roy Woods, ARES has 22 current members.  Meetings started Sept 17 at PI Library.  Continue to have good attendance.  Next meeting Oct. 22, drill in Fort Fairfield at town office, 08:30.  To try out comms at that location.  Town to provide lunch.  Set up comms with portable unit between EOC and fallout shelter in Fort Fairfield.  Plenty to do.  Get out points for this drill based on number of people who show up.  November 19 meeting will be at Caribou Weather bureau, they will put on weather spotter program. Piscataquis County ARES will be touring Caribou Weather station the following Monday.

**FIELD DAY/Public Information Officer:  **Decision hasn’t been made on next year’s Field Day location.  Should be determined by next month’s meeting.

  • Ken Hayes. He is doing well.  Alive, gained some weight.  Resumed command of Civil Air Patrol.  He also rejoined ARES.
  • James Jalbert said he’d be willing to do another cheap Chinese radio presentation

  • Harvest Fall Social Saturday, October 15 at Duntown Church, North Wade
  • Boy Scouts Jamboree on the Air on same weekend as Fall Social
  • VE session Oct 18 at Library
  • Christmas Party on December 8 at Caribou Inn & Conv. Center
  • Ivan compiling list for club’s Elmering project. Those interested in helping others in Ham Radio may put their name on the list expressing their willingness to donate time and knowledge to help other Hams get up to speed.

Treasurer’s report:  $26.00 Chinese Auction deposit from Spring Social.  Collected $75 for testing in Stockholm.  Wrote check to ARRL for $75.  Rec. $60 dues, 44 cents interest since June.  Bought some banners for field day, purchased can of coffee to reimburse Fire Dept. ,  $3,361.46.  Passed unanimously.  Complete list filed with Secretary in briefcase.

**EMCOMM: ** ARES met May 21, 2016.  A few members attended Wings & Wheels in Houlton and attended annual EMS expo in Madawaska, set up tables, handed out materials, talked to people about Ham Radio.

**FIELD DAY/Public Information Officer:  **Roy Woods said good turnout for field day at Madawaska Lake.

EXCOMM:  Several applications received over summer break and voted to approve by Executive Committee:  Josh Cheney, KC1CQB;  Judy Mann, WA1JCN; Ed Franz, W7ERF.

**Applications for Membership: **Laurie Spooner, W1KXP.  Motion to approve passed unanimously.

**President’s report:  **Albert Hill, honorary member G4PYQ, Manchester, England died. WA1URS Denis moved to Bangor.  Did not resign as Tech Advisor.  James Jalbert is assistant tech director.

Old Business: Steve Vance spoke with Sonja at Library regarding meeting room, she said they will never be charging rent for the room.  Discussed installation of 2M rig and antenna for the meeting room at the library.

**New Business:  **Corn Roast at Ivan Shapiro’s 3PM on Labor Day.  Pot luck, bring a dish, club will provide corn.

Roy Woods said we’ve been offered another weather spotter program in Caribou.

Michelle Sandelier inquired on interest in Christmas Party for this December. Café Sopresso.  Will send info to club members regarding who will submit.  C.S. is the best alternative at this point thus far.

Sonny:  It was suggested a CW class be held on 2M.   ARRL still has CW trials on HF, also computer software available to learn.  Ivan suggested someone willing to teach CW, who knows it well, could organize a class at library.  Anyone interested contact Ivan and he’ll put the word out.

Roy asked if club wanted to continue streaming meeting online.  Ivan says will make announcement for next meeting.

Scotty WA1YNZ moved out of the area and left some photo scrapbooks of the club from past events.

AARA meeting:

The October meeting will be on the 6th. at 6:00PM at the PI Library.  The program will be presented by Sam Barrett, W5KF and will cover using CW; why, here’s how, let’s do it!

Should be instructive and extremely helpful.

Sam’s program will include the virtues of using CW.

Harvest Supper:

**The AARA Harvest Supper will be held on October 15th. this year.  **

** Please put it on your calendar and plan on being there.  It will be held at the Dunntown Church in Wade.  If you need directions, email me.**

** We will meet by 6:00PM and hopefully eat around 6:30.**

** It will be a pot luck dinner.   **

Don’t forget your place settings and something to drink if you want something other than coffee.

We will also have a Chinese auction so gather up your unused items, magazines, VHS & DVD’s, etc and donate them to the cause.

Amateur Radio License Exam Testing:

Amateur radio licensing examinations will be offered in Presque Isle on Tuesday, October 18th at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library, 39 2nd St and will start at 6:00 PM. Walk-ins will be accepted. Examinees must have 2 forms of positive identification and their Social Security number. Licensed amateurs trying to upgrade must have in their possession the original license and a clear photocopy of it. Contact the team VE leader (Steve N1NXU 227-2473) in advance if special exam facilities are required or proposed. The cost is $15.00 (exact cash please). Treasurer’s report:  Received $26 from Chinese Auction at Spring Social carrying as ‘petty cash’ until end of month.  Gave $100 check to Dunntown church for use of hall.  Received 15 cents interest.  Total balance:  $3,455.99

**EMCOMM: ** ARES had monthly meeting in May.  Tested radios in Library.  All worked good.  Got a ‘Toughbook’ laptop from Aroostook Emergency Management.

**FIELD DAY/Public Information Officer:  **Discussion on Jim Cerrato using postcards to invite area Hams to Field day.

Roy Woods made motion to approve $50.00 for postage for post cards with understanding Jim Cerrato will return any money not used back to club.  Seconded by Jim.  Motion passed unanimously.

Discussed signage for Field Day.  Can get 72”x28” vinyl sign for under $40.00.  Sam showed sample.  Jim made motion to get two signs so can aim up and down road perpendicularly.  Sam seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Fire Department at Field Day will sell hot dogs, etc. for food at Field Day.   They’ll have Open House that day for the public to help draw people. If large crowd shows up, then pizza can be ordered from Reno’s for delivery.

Need to request people who are coming to Field Day need tables and chairs.  Jim Cerrato can get five tables from Knights of Columbus for the weekend.

**Old Business:  **Roy has purchased sidewalls for the club’s carport canopy.

New Business:  Joan says UMPI has facilities for banquet and catering service.  Charitable organizations get room for $60.00.  Possibility of using venue for Christmas party.  Since next club meeting is Sept.  Ivan suggested allowing Executive Committee to make decision on venue after all information is received in.  Club was in agreement with Ex Comm to make decision.

**EMCOMM: ** ARES had monthly meeting in April.  Total membership is 26.  Have been working on scheduling people to work at Hospital once a month to check in to Monday night net from the TAMC radio.

Roy filled out quarterly report of County and State.

July 23, 2016 Wings & Wheels show in Houlton at the airport.  ARES invited to attend with booth, demo, etc.

Next ARES meeting May 21, 2016. 9-11am.

**FIELD DAY/Public Information Officer:  **Trying to figure out frequencies to use for EOC on field day.  Should do contacts to EOC after testing.  Testing is at 3pm.  Spoke with Susan Collins office re field day and have appointment with WCXU.

Roy and Jim going to Fort Kent on May 12.  To attend their club meeting to spark some interest in them coming to our field day.

Inviting Boy Scout troops to attend for merit badges.

**Old Business: **Roy waiting for Tractor Supply to get in better selection of sides for canopy.

Steve Vance said we’ll have to rent a bucket truck or lift to put antenna up at library.  Dina said she might have access to a portable lift if someone has a pickup truck to move it.

New Business:  Roy solicited to see if there was interest in an upcoming Weather Spotter program in Caribou.  6 people interested.  No date set yet.

CERT program on June 11 & June 18.

Spring Social May 21.  Potluck supper at Dunntown Church.  Chinese Auction.  Steve moved to donate $100 to church.  Roy seconded.  Passed unanimous.

**EMCOMM: ** TAMC almost had to call out ARES last Sunday because they lost all phone communication and were concerned about losing radio contact with ambulance. Also issues with alarm system.  Do not know why that occurred. Significant flooding happening right now, so monitoring the situation.

ARES will never be called out for a couple of hours, only called out if the event is expected to last 12 hours or more.

Trying to get the four area hospitals set up to be able to participate in local Ham net at least once a month.

Next ARES meeting April 16, 2016 9am at PI Public Library.

** FIELD DAY: **June 25-26 at Northlakes Fire Dept. on New Sweden Rd at Madawaska Lake

** Public Information Officer:  **Jim reports testing notices posted in PI, Caribou and Fort Fairfield Newspapers.  Jim won’t be available to submit info to radio or TV stations, Ivan will check into.

** Applications for Membership:** none

**President’s report:  **Have opening for assistant technical adviser.  James Jalbert volunteered to take that position.  No other volunteers stepped forward.  Motion: Ivan Second Jim C. motion approved unanimously

**Old Business: **Steve Vance gave update on antenna installation at the PI Public Library.  Looking at DIAMOND X200A dual band.  Need standoffs, cement inserts, ground rod and 100 feet coax.   Sonia, the librarian, is fine with install. Motion to accept the acquisition of these parts with exception of radio by Ivan S., Second:  Dave D.  Motion passed unanimously.

Roy was authorized to get sides for tent at field day with limit of $100.00.  He found some sides with windows for $129.00  Motion by Ivan S. Second, Sonny P.  Motion passed unanimously.

**New Business: **Testing on Monday, April 11.  If you want to help, let Steve N1NXU know.

Dwayne:  May 21 for Spring Social at Dunntown Church.  6pm  Potluck supper with Chinese Auction.
