AARA meeting:

Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 PM EDT (22:30 UTC) the AARA will hold its next meeting at the Presque Isle Library, located at Second & State Streets, Presque Isle, Maine.

The program, promising to be very interesting and dynamic, will be presented by our member, Darius Haskell WM1F, entitled “The Spirit of HAM Radio”

 Darius will talk about the abundance of inexpensive radio kits and the learning experience of building your own radio circuits from scratch. Specifically he will discuss 40 meter CW transceiver kit that retails for about $2.50 and a FM transmitter kit that goes for about $1.50. He will talk about how to learn about radio theory through building and testing circuits. He will demonstrate some aspects.

The AARA Mission statement is as follows:

The mission of the AROOSTOOK AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION is to:
– provide emergency communications services to the community;
– support Aroostook ARES/RACES for emergency services
– assist other civic organizations;
– promote the technical craft of amateur radio through training and testing;
– assist and mentor new amateur operators and members;
– and enhance fellowship among radio amateurs.

I think that we all agree with these stated aims of our club. As individuals, we all work to achieve positive results in the above areas. However by operating as a club or association, we multiply our efforts many times, and at the same time lighten the load on any one individual.

Whether you discovered the AARA before or after you successfully achieved your license, you likely found support and fellowship that has enhanced your interest in amateur radio. By your membership, you have indicated that you value the existence of AARA and wish the association to be in place to welcome others who will discover amateur radio in the future.

To be successful, an association such as ours requires effort, commitment and leadership.

But here is the catch: In order for the club to be available to assist newly licensed or recently arrived amateur radio operators, a consistent leadership continuum is essential. That means that every member that values our association must step forward to help in whatever ways their abilities allow. EVERYONE possesses talents. I would like to urge you to volunteer your special ability to insure the success of the Aroostook Amateur Radio Association.

I am asking each person who receives this communication to contact me directly so that I can compile a list of your interests. Without doubt, no leader serves in a vacuum. The entire membership is an available resource to those willing to serve as an officer. My question is, in your opinion which club office would best suit your interests and talents?

You may contact me via email, mail, or phone.
